Discord fonts for names and messages
Why fancy text works on Discord
Discord has Markdown for messages (**bold**, *italic*, `code`), but it doesn’t work in names. Unicode letters do: your display name, a server nickname, channel topics and messages all keep them. Your username is the exception: Discord allows only lowercase a–z, digits, underscores and periods there, between 2 and 32 characters.

Tips for Discord
- Fancy text goes in the display name (up to 32 characters). Your username stays plain lowercase.
- For chat, Discord’s own formatting is easier to read. Save fancy letters for names, roles and channel titles.
- Glitch text is fun in chat, but heavy glitch can cover the lines above and below. Use the light level for names.
Questions people ask
Can I use fancy fonts in my Discord username?
No. Usernames allow only lowercase Latin letters, digits, underscores and periods. Use fancy text in your display name or a server nickname instead.
Does Discord have a font changer?
Not for names. In messages you can use Markdown like **bold** and *italic*. For names, paste Unicode letters from this page.
Why do some people see boxes instead of my Discord text?
Their phone has no font for one of the characters. Bold, italic, cursive and gothic show on almost all current phones; rare styles like mirrored or subscript letters are the usual culprits.
Can people still find me on Discord if I use fancy text?
Search looks for plain letters. If your name is only fancy text, people typing your name may not find you. Keep the username plain and use fancy text in the display name or bio.
