Find invisible characters in text
Paste text above. Hidden characters will be marked in the copy shown here.
Normal spaces are shown as a small dot, hidden characters as a labelled box.
How to use a blank character
- Tap Copy next to the character you want. The first one, HANGUL FILLER (U+3164), works in the most places because apps treat it as a letter.
- Paste it into the name, bio or message field. For a wider blank, paste it two or three times.
- Save and check the result in the app itself. If the app removes it or says the name is empty, go back and try the next character in the list.
Why some apps remove invisible characters
Apps clean up names to stop impersonation and empty profiles. Almost every app trims ordinary spaces at the start and end of a name, and many treat every Unicode space the same way. Zero-width characters are a favourite of spammers, so they are often deleted or a name made only of them is refused.
Fillers such as U+3164 survive more often because Unicode classes them as letters, not spaces. Some games and platforms block them on purpose anyway, and rules change with app updates. We have not tested each app ourselves, so treat every character here as “try it and see”. Our character counter tells you how many characters the result counts as.
Invisible characters also hide in copied text: a zero-width space can break a password, a link or a search. Paste suspicious text into the checker above to see exactly where they are, then copy a clean version.
Blank nickname tips
- Use U+3164 HANGUL FILLER on its own or two to three in a row. Many games need at least one or two characters in a name.
- If one is refused, put a blank between visible symbols instead, for example ★ㅤ★. A name with visible parts is rarely blocked.
- A filler is one character for most length limits, but some apps count by bytes, where it counts as three.
- For a nickname with style rather than nothing, see the nickname generator and symbols.
Questions people ask
What is an invisible character?
A Unicode character that takes up space, or no space, but draws nothing: special spaces, zero-width characters and fillers. It is still a real character for the app, so it can fill a name field that would otherwise be empty.
How do I copy an empty character?
Tap the Copy button next to it. You will not see anything in the toast because the character is blank. Paste it where you need it; the cursor moves, which shows it is there.
Which invisible character works best for a nickname?
U+3164 HANGUL FILLER, because apps treat it as a letter and do not trim it like a space. If it is blocked, try U+2800 BRAILLE PATTERN BLANK. Results depend on the app and change over time.
Can I send an empty message?
Many messengers refuse a message made only of spaces, but accept one made of U+3164 or U+2800. Copy one of them and send it as the whole message.
Why does the invisible character show as a box?
The font on that device draws the character as a box instead of nothing. This happens most with the Hangul fillers on some Android phones and Windows apps. Use the Braille blank there instead.
How do I remove invisible characters from text?
Paste the text into the checker on this page. It marks every hidden character and gives you a button to copy the text without them.
