How to type symbols on iPhone
The iPhone keyboard hides symbols behind a long press. Here are the ones on the English keyboard, and how to add a shortcut for any other.
Long press on the keyboard
Tap 123 to see numbers and punctuation, then press and hold a key: a small row of extra symbols pops up. Slide to the one you want and let go.

Text Replacement for any symbol
For symbols the keyboard does not have, make a shortcut once:
- Copy the symbol from this site.
- Open Settings › General › Keyboard › Text Replacement and tap +.
- Paste the symbol as the Phrase and type a short Shortcut, for example ;deg.
- Type the shortcut in any app and tap the symbol in the suggestion bar.
Emoji keyboard search
Symbols that are also emoji (♥ ✔ ☀ ➡) can be found in the emoji keyboard: open it and type a word in the search field.
Copy and paste
The fastest way for a one-off symbol: tap it on this site, then press and hold in your app and choose Paste.
