The ellipsis … (U+2026) is one character that looks like three periods. It marks omitted words in a quotation or a trailing thought. Most typographers accept either form; the single character keeps the dots together at line ends. iPhone users get it by holding the period key, Mac users with Option+; and Windows users with Alt+0133.
The official Unicode name of … is HORIZONTAL ELLIPSIS, code point U+2026. You will find it in the General Punctuation block; it was added in Unicode 1.1 (1993).
