What ㎡ means and how it is used

㎡ (U+33A1) is a single-character square metre from East Asian character sets, popular in Japanese and Korean property ads. Outside those languages, write m² instead: the letter m followed by superscript two ², which every font supports and which screen readers announce correctly. Search engines treat 50 m² and 50㎡ differently, so pick one form and keep it consistent on a page.

The official Unicode name of ㎡ is SQUARE M SQUARED, code point U+33A1. You will find it in the CJK Compatibility block; it was added in Unicode 1.1 (1993).

It sits in the units with 112 symbols, among them ° ℃ µ Ω %.
