Turn on Num Lock, hold the Alt key, type 228 on the numeric keypad and let go of Alt: Σ appears.
Uses the old DOS code page 437, which US-English Windows uses for Alt codes without a leading 0; on Windows set to other languages the result can differ.

What Σ means and how it is used
Capital sigma Σ is the Greek letter S. In maths it means a sum, though the dedicated summation sign ∑ (U+2211) is preferred in formulas. Lowercase σ means standard deviation, and Greek has a special final form ς at the end of words. Online, 'sigma' is also slang for a self-assured loner, which explains many recent searches.
The official Unicode name of Σ is GREEK CAPITAL LETTER SIGMA, code point U+03A3. You will find it in the Greek and Coptic block; it was added in Unicode 1.1 (1993).

What is the difference between Σ and Ʃ?
