What ∠ means and how it is used

The angle sign ∠ names an angle in geometry: ∠ABC is the angle at vertex B. The measured-angle sign ∡ and the right-angle sign ∟ are related characters. For the size of an angle use the degree sign: ∠ABC = 45°. In plain text it saves writing the word angle again and again in geometry notes.

The official Unicode name of ∠ is ANGLE, code point U+2220. You will find it in the Mathematical Operators block; it was added in Unicode 1.1 (1993).

It also goes by these names and keywords: acute.

It sits in the math symbols with 148 symbols, among them π ∞ √ ± ×.
