What ♻ means and how it is used

♻ is the universal recycling symbol, based on the three-arrow loop designed by Gary Anderson in 1970. Unicode also includes recycling codes for plastics, ♳ to ♹. On phones ♻ usually shows as a green emoji. The plastic codes help sorting: ♳ is PET bottles, ♴ HDPE. On packaging the loop of arrows means recyclable or made from recycled material, depending on the country.

In Unicode, ♻ is code point U+267B with the official name BLACK UNIVERSAL RECYCLING SYMBOL. It belongs to the Miscellaneous Symbols block and arrived with Unicode 3.2 in 2002.

Other words for it: recycle, recycling, symbol.
